outdoor antennas

I was under the impression that with the move to digital broadcasts, outdoor antennas would no longer be needed. But, apparently I was wrong. I have noticed that there are now a lot of HDTV outdoor antennas that are available. I guess the antennas help to ensure that you pick up any signal that is transmitted. If I understand the science correctly, with digital broadcasts, once the signal is picked up by your antennae, there will no longer be any fuzzy pictures. Either it will be ‘perfect’ or you get no picture at all.
